Basic skills courses are specialized, intensive, one-day courses designed to familiarize the client with elements of the wilderness environment. The purpose is to build basic skill sets that will increase the individual's levels of awareness and self confidence in remote locations.

Plant Identification Course
The plant identification course start in mid spring with identification of wild plants in early stages of growth, and it continues through the summer into autumn for the final stages of the growing season.

The shelter construction course is designed to instruct the individual in techniques for constructing emergency shelters using organic materials commonly found in a wilderness environment. We will also discuss and demonstrate common portable emergency shelter systems that are available on the market.
